Janaine: A Volunteer from the Netherlands
"Janaine Van Ommeren is a 20-year old student from the Netherlands. She is studying Events Organizing at ROC ASA and she is already on her 3rd year. She came to House of Refuge to volunteer and apply everything she learned from her events classes. She is very friendly, flexible and open to experience the life inside the children's home. She is well motivated to reach-out to the children and contribute her talents to the House of Refuge. Her family is in the Netherlands and she sacrificed the comforts of her home to be with the HORFI children."

My News: Week 1
My name is Janaine van Ommeren i am 20 years old and live in Holland. This week was my second week as a volunteer/intern at House Of Refuge. At the beginning i had to adjust because of the diffrent lifestyle between Holland and the Philippines is very big and this would be the first time that i am on my own and be in another country for so long. But i am very happy to be here. The employees/volunteers are very nice and i can easily talk to them also. I get to know the children much better day by day and they are very nice and kind.
The reason that i will be here these months is because i will help House Of Refuge by organizing fun and educative activities for the children. Beside that, I will help during the daily tasks and i will do some marketing and communication tasks.
Because it is the first week i had the time to get to know everyone and help everyone with their daily tasks. I've been working on my school projects this week and already helped with a Valentine's garage sale that was very nice because the older children are raising money with the stuff that were given to them but don't fit them so they are trying to raise money with it. This garage sale is not just to earn money for their education and food but it trains the older children to be young entrepreneurs. And I've already run 2 small events for the children. I prepared some little games for them and we played the games in the afternoon. They really had fun! Every week on teusday morning and thursday afternoon I will do activities with the children for 1 hour.
Friday we went to the park with all the children and the housparents to have a picnic and we played basketball, soccer and badminton with the children. It was really a fun and active day and a good ending of the week!
